I'm going to summarize the highlights of the last while in the briefest manner possible.
Sunday, 10 January 2010: Back to LA. The flight was rough. I slept for ten minutes in total. I watched Batman Begins and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, listened to some country music, and read The Time Travelers' Wife again.
11: First day of second semester of classes, school year 2009-2010.
18: Classes off for MLK day. Yay! [:
22: Saw the Lovely Bones, the movie. I loved the book, so I thought the movie would be great as well. It wasn't as amazing as the book, but it was... decent.
23: USC's Casino Night, hosted by the LGBT society. Also went to see the movie Book of Eli with Denzel Washiington. Unfortunately, I didn't think it was that great.
26: Saw Larry King speak live at Bovard Auditorium. He's amazingly funny and genial live, what a contrast from him on his show! Great stuff.
27: Jason's birthday. Went to a friend's apartment and had a fun quiz night.
30: Went to this great restaurant for dinner, called The Pantry. All I had was a slice of apple pie, but it was GREAT APPLE PIE. Yep. Melted on the plate, then in my mouth. Ah. :D
Sunday, 7 February 2010: Went to see Stomp, the musical group, at the Pantages Theatre. It was a USC-funded trip for those who wanted to go, so I got to go for free! They were amazing, I was in awe the entire time. I hope that one day I can come to understand rhythm as well as they. Yes.
12: a) First biology exam of the semester. I got EXACTLY the average grade. Equates to a B. I'm actually happy with that, as it's so much better than how I was doing last semester, and I can only improve from here. [:
b) Tom, a friend of mine from EPGY at Stanford, came to visit! He arrived at Union Station in the evening and I went to pick him up with Cameron and a friend of his who was visiting from Boston, called Alyssa. After we picked Tom up, we went and I got to try two LA legends that I haven't tried until now; Diddy Riese' ice cream and cookies. O___O AMAZING. And then, In 'n' Out double double burger, with fries and a strawberry milkshake. Again, O________O AMAZING.
13: USC LGBT-hosted Carnaval. Based off of the Brazilian Carnaval celebration, it was a night of samba display, raffles, a drag show, play gambling, etc. Good times. I had a lot of fun.
14: Valentines, aka Singles' Awareness Day! On this day, myself, Tom, Cameron, Alyssa, and Ivanna went to Six Flags Magic Mountain. So much fun! I got a season pass, which costs the price of just under two tickets, and lasts a year. I love roller coasters. I also bought two pounds of fudge. With a coupon I got from the USC Ticket office, it cost me only ten dollars. It's still in the refrigerator, we'll probably have it until May. :P
15: No classes, for Presidents' Day. Apparently pre-university schools got the whole week off? Heh. We only got the one day. Ah well, it's nice to know I'm getting my money's worth of schooling. [:
16: Submitted a lab report for biology that I'm particularly proud of. I'm waiting for the grade to be posted online so I know what I got. ^_^
17: a) Economics midterm. The average score of the class was 71 points. I got 80. I was proud.
b) Chose my housing for next year! The apartments owned by USC tend to be expensive, so I chose the cheapest housing available. The place I ended up in was my first choice, they're nice apartments, but I don't know about my apartmentmates. I had to grab the first free room I saw, because it was the only free spot left. My roommate is now a girl from Nebraska who is in Christian Challenge USC. Christian Challenge describes its vision as follows:
"It is our determined purpose to know, love, and glorify God, and be used of Him to evangelize, establish, equip, and encourage life-long laborers in the harvest".... Yep. The three girls in the apartment besides me all knew each other before, as they're all part of Christian Challenge. *sigh. I'm meeting them this Sunday for dinner, so we'll see how that goes.
USC Christian Challenge is part of a ministry recognized on more than 1,200 campuses in the United States and abroad. Our desire is to help students to cultivate a dynamic faith in God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to discover and implement God's purposes for them in their world."
18: Went to Papa Cristo's, an amazing Greek restaurant, with Cameron for dinner. I LOVE GREEK FOOD.
19: Went with Cameron and saw Valentine's Day, the movie. It was... a typical chick flick. It reminded me of why I don't pay to see movies made for young girls and emotional women. Waste of money. Waste of time. I'd rather pay to see something interesting and thought provoking.
22: a) Had my first midterm exam for Calculus. Augh. I wish I understood Calculus.
b) Saw Shutter Island with Ivanna and Cameron. I was happy to pay for that one, it was worth my money. For the first hour I was really bored and the plot seemed to be moving extremely slowly, but then towards the end of the movie, everything was explained, and the slowness was justified. I thought it was a good movie. Not amazing, but good enough to be worth money. And for me, that means a lot, haha, as I tend to be ridiculously stingy.
c) Called a lot of different public storage companies and asked for price quotes for storage over the summer. The most reasonable price I could find was $151.95 with A-American Self Storage. You can click on that link if you want, it's their home page for USC students.
25: Went to Eric and Matias' room to watch the Olympics, as I've been doing a lot recently. On this day, Kim Yuna won gold for female's figure skating. Korean people everywhere are happy. All this nationalism is getting tiresome. KOLEA NUMBAH ONE, PAI TEENG!
26: Went with a friend from biology lab last semester, called Brian, to this amazing Chinese food restaurant called JJ Cafe. He has a car, so he can drive to all these great food places, and the awesome thing is, he knows where ALL the good food around LA is, haha. I had wanted Chinese food so badly, I got Beef Chow fun with Dark Soy Sauce; that's what it was called on the menu. So good. I was extremely happy.
And, today is Saturday the 27th of February, 2010. Today I'm holed up in my room working on various pursuits, namely a 5 page paper for my Classical Mythology class due Wednesday, studying for a Biology Lab Exam on Tuesday, and studying Math, as usual.
Things to say in general, hmm.
Well, I've started going to the gym regularly, ie every other day. My routine is to go through all the machines, then run for 40 minutes, then do the machines again, and then leave, get a fruit juice, shower, and have a great night of sleep. Oh yes, and I sleep because I go late, usually I get there at maybe 9:30 to ten, and leave at midnight.
Er... not much else to say.
Things going on in the future, I guess I can summarize that for you now.
28 February; meet the future apartmentmates in Christian Challenge for dinner.
2 March; Biology Lab Exam
3; Classical mythology paper due
12; Biology exam 2
13; Spring Break starts!
14; Daylight Saving Time starts
17; Six Flags! with Brian, Tiffany (his girlfriend, who's visiting from New Jersey over Spring Break), and Tomio. Followed by all you can eat Korean barbecue for dinner. :D :D :D
21; The last day of Spring Break. :(
23; Submit second biology lab report.
24; Classical Mythology Midterm
26; Academic advising appointment to talk about next semester's classes.
29; Second Math midterm. I'm scared.
1 April; April Fool's Day. Mwahahahahahahahaha.
... so yes. That's what's going on for the next month.
Whew. Well that's all for now, I really must go work on that classical mythology paper.
Hopefully, I'll post again soon. Thus, until next time!
^_^
