euuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh this morning (Sunday morning), I got woken up from a deep sleep by a fire alarm blaring its obnoxious noisy self onto my eardrums in an extremely violent fashion. The residents of my building who were in at the time had to sit outside for about 20 minutes (I was watching my watch), while DPS and fire fighters scurried around looking for the source of fire. Some stupid kid was probably just smoking near a smoke detector or something. MEAH.
I was having a wonderful dream, too.
Sheesh.

lazy. lazylazylazy.
Well, it is Saturday night. Or Sunday morning, whichever you prefer, because it is currently 2:30 AM on Sunday the 30th of August.
First I must say my address, for those who wish to send me care packages full of stuff like love, money, and food (^_^) (^_^) (^_^) (^_^) . It is as follows:
Michelle Kwon
635 W. 35th St., Room #2238
Los Angeles, California
90007
Make sure to make the name and room number especially clear, please. It makes it easier for the poor people who have to sort through the torrential flow of incoming mail and determine what is whose.
Now moving on;
This is my first weekend at university. Today, today being Saturday, I actually did nothing much, I just had breakfast with Jason and Wiley at Parkside, then we went to the Parkside Games Room and I played some pool, then watched Jason and Wiley play ping pong, which was a lot of fun, because they're intense with that game, as per usual. Have I mentioned that before in this blog? Well if I didn't, they are two big white boys who are extremely enthusiastic about ping pong. While their little asian friend sits and watches them in awe. Haha, it is ridiculous, but it is true.
After they played ping pong, Jason went off to meet Ivanna so they could go to San Diego together, and Wiley and I went to get some food; I had a roast beef sandwich and a Starbucks Caramel Creamice, which was pretty good. I was surprised, I'd never seen or tried that before, but it was nice. Frappuccinos are nicer though. Meah.
In the afternoon, I went to Wiley's room and we watched TV. There was some movie about a band playing with Nick Cannon, we watched the beginning, then I fell asleep in a chair and he fell asleep on his bed, and we napped like that for the next two hours. Then, I went back to my dorm, and napped again. And tonight I watched a movie with Alexa, it was good, and now I'm back here on this Saturday night/Sunday morning. Tomorrow, tomorrow being Sunday, I plan on just staying in my room and doing some work for my writing and chemistry classes.
It's going to be a wonderfully lazy day. ^_^

monday night.
New post.
I wrote this last night (last night being monday night. I forgot to hit "post" because I am intelligent. So I'm posting it today, Tuesday)
I don't remember what I did yesterday all day. My brain can't be bothered to stretch that far back and recall. But what I do remember, which was definitely a highlight of the day, was the very end. There was a Comedy Show out on the main Quad, and the comedians who came were Tom Clark, who is seriously awesome. Watching him, I didn't stop laughing for about 20 minutes, or however long he was up. Then there was Anjelah Johnson, who was also good, but. Personally I preferred Tom Clark. I don't think he deserves to be the opening act, he's equally good or maybe even better than Anjelah Johnson. Anywho, I laughed more. Anjelah Johnson is more well known, though? Having been on Mad TV as Bon Qui Qui and then just as herself being a stand up comedian, I suppose it makes sense that she was the main act. Meah. I just thought Clark was better.
Anyway, so the comedy show was fun fun fun, then I went and ate at Parkside. I believe I've spoken about Parkside already, it's a cafeteria on campus where you use meals from your meal plan to gain entry, then can eat unlimited quantities of their food. And their food is. Amazing. Wonderful. Delicious. Gorgeous. FROM THE HEAVENS.
And then, well, it was late so I went back to my room and slept.
Today though, today was sort of a big day in my life at university. That is, since it was my first day of classes, it's sort of a day to remember, I suppose. I had a class from all four of my subjects today, those being Biology Lecture, Chemistry Lecture, Writing Lecture, and History Lecture. (my history class is called "The Evolution Debates"). The Biology professor seems nice, but able to completely destroy a student if they get out of line. The Chemistry and Writing Professors seem really cool and capable, and the History teacher, well, he is the quintessential American University professor; he looks like a librarian (turns out he IS an actual librarian), sorta like Eugene the Librarian from Britain's got Talent. And is very american. Yes.
All in all, my professors seem alright, and I look forward to having a good semester.
... So yes. That is what I wrote last night, but forgot to hit 'post' because I was exhausted and braindead. Apparently I fell asleep about 2 minutes after I got off the computer, while lying in bed trying to read the first page of a book about evolution. woooo fun.

saturday evening/sunday morning rambling
Well, it's Saturday evening now. Or, Sunday morning, whichever you prefer. Whatever 1:20 AM on Sunday is for you.
Anyway, I'll just briefly mention the past couple of days.
On Thursday and Friday, I had a pair of what was called "Micro-seminars". Basically, it's a sample of what college lectures are going to be like. The professor who gave my microseminar was called Young Hong, and apparently usually he only teaches to graduate students. So the lecture itself was very informative, and well-prepared. The seminar was called, "Stem Cell Therapy: Hope or Hype?" Basically, we learned about the history of stem cell research and development, the pros and cons of research into stem cell therapies, and discussed arguments for and against the work. All in all, it was extremely interesting.
There was also a performance we had to watch about, ehem, what happens when relationships between men and women go bad. It was called "Unspeakable Acts", and it was well performed. However, I think it was meant to be informative, whereas the audience wasn't really taught anything, we just watched the taking place of a crime and how sad people were afterwards.
At 9 PM, there was a "Welcome Back Dance" which was actually basically a foam party. A containment area was walled off by waterproof material, then people went inside and danced while loads of foam poured down on them from above. It was very... unique. It lasted until midnight, but me and the friends I went with left half an hour early, because it was getting cold. So we went to my dorm and we just relaxed for a while. I made a friend, called Jason, during orientation, and we're really good friends now. While we were in my room, my roommate at one point left to go to the bathroom, and while she was gone, me and Jason talked about stuff like how much we miss our friends, how much he misses his girlfriend, etc etc. It was a really nice bonding moment, and so now we call each other "platonic soulmates". ^_^ I'm extremely grateful that I have a good friend here now, though I really wish I had more. But, one is definitely a start. Once I start classes, I hope I'll be able to make some friends there.
Today, today being Saturday, was alright as well. Initially, I was supposed to go do volunteer work in the LA community, which I was signed up for, but two days ago I was emailed, and told that my activity was cancelled. Well, that meant that I had nothing to do for most of the day today. So I met Jason for breakfast and we ate a lot at this really nice cafeteria on campus, which I'll definitely be going to often; the cafeteria right next to where I live has good food, but the other one is much better, larger, cleaner, and offers a larger variety of stuff to eat. The only downside is, it's about a 15 minute walk from my dorm. But that's not really a downside, I like walking, and that'll help me prevent the notorious freshman 15. :)
So after breakfast, we went and played pool for a while, then another friend of mine called Wiley, who's one of my friends from EPGY last year, called me and said he was free. So I told him to come to the games room, and Jason and Wiley played ping pong. That was amazing to watch, they both play really well. Honestly, I was a bit intimidated, haha, because I haven't played ping pong in so long, and when I tried it against Jason, I was losing by an extremely high number of points. Eh. ^^;
Then Jason, Wiley, and I went out and got ice cream sandwiches. It was awfully hot and humid today, so the ice cream was wonderful to have. Then I got my roommate (Ivanna) to come out, as well as my other friend from EPGY, who's called Alexa. The five of us (me, Jason, Wiley, Ivanna, and Alexa, just to clarify, if this is getting a bit confusing) went to the cinema in the University Village right next to USC and saw District 9. By the way, tickets to a movie there, if you are a USC student with valid ID, costs $5.00 . Amazing! Five dollar movie! Back in Geneva, even if you have your student ID, a movie is 14.50 chf. Basically, 300% of the price here. I was so happy. :D It seems I will have to return there many times in the future whenever a movie that looks really good is released.
After the movie, at 5 PM we went to a "Welcome Back Fall Carnival", which sounds fun but was actually really boring, because there was about 4 games you could play, and that was about it. So after the first 20 minutes there, we got really bored. Alexa left to watch her roommate, who is in the band, play as part of the Spirit of Troy (the USC band). Ivanna, Wiley, Jason and I left to go eat dinner because it was really boring. So we ate, I had a great dinner, and then we came back to the main Quad on campus. From 7 PM there was a concert on the Quad, where three bands played some music; they were all pretty good, and I did some happy dancing, even though the music was along the pop-rock genre and generally not used for dancing. Even when I was surrounded by people I didn't know (my friends were in the crowd behind me, because I had gone closer to the stage myself), the music got inside my head and body, and made me dance. It feels so good to be surrounded by music, it makes me happy when I'm sad and feeling lonely.
Anyway, the concert ended at maybe about 11? So we went back to my dorm, and I went on the internet and found out that I actually have to buy a lot more books. So I ordered quite a few off of Amazon.com, because they were inexpensive, and there were four others which I either couldn't find online, or cost way too much (meaning, over $100). Those I plan on buying at the Bookstore on campus, if they're still in stock.
So, that's what I did today. Later on, I need to get in contact with the 'USC Collection Office' to sort out financial issues, because I got an email from them saying that I need to see them. So I'll go do that.
Well, that's all I have to say for now. I'm tired, it's 2:30 AM, and my nose is bleeding. It's about time I go and sleep and stop worrying about stuff. So good night, and hasta la vista, baby. Which makes no sense whatsoever, silly Arnold.

at school now!
So, I've arrived at college. Everything is as I thought it would be; the air is fresh, the people are beautiful (kind of), and everyone is happy. I'm happy. College is nice.
Move in day was yesterday, which was crazy, with everyone dragging bags and boxes everywhere. I met a bunch of nice girls who are living on my floor later in the day, and they really are very sweet; but as of so far, no one really seems to be my... type? of person. Does that make sense?
Anywho, my roommate is cool. Out of all the people on my floor, I think she's the most decent. I have yet to really get to know the other people, so, we shall see. Who knows, maybe I'll make a really close friend of one of the girls here.
Oh, and I went to Orientation the day before yesterday, and the day before that. Haha, I was actually overwhelmed by the enormity of the campus, and the realization of the fact that I'll probably get lost at least 5 times the first week. Possibly 10. Maybe 15. hmmm.
... Moving on. So having gone through the two-day Orientation, and the Move-in Day stuff, today is the first day of something the school calls "welcome week". Basically, this is one week where all the students are put through socializing and orientation activities. For example, in an hour and 45 minutes I have a seminar session thing called "How to Get Involved". I assume they're going to tell us how to get involved in stuff on campus. My roommate's going to that too, so I'll probably be going with her.
Oh and! Two friends who I met at a summer program called EPGY at Stanford University are going to my uni as well, so yesterday evening we met up and it was amazing! It's so surreal that an entire year has passed already, and now we're in college. At the same college. Which is, by the way, entirely coincidental. We by no means planned that. And I'm being completely serious, no sarcasm there. (for once)
So yes. I think this will be a fun year, with good people, and I trust that I'll be making a lot of new memories that I'll keep forever over the next few months. With that mindset, I leave you now. I'm going to go shopping with a friend. Yay, socializing. :)
Laters,
Michelle.

pre-preamble to college; the week before.
Well, this is the first post of a blog that will hopefully chronicle my life over the next four years, while I'm at university at USC (University of Southern California, in Los Angeles).
At the moment, I'm at home on the East Coast, New York specifically. I fly over to LA with my family on the 13th of August, that is; in exactly a week. We're touring LA and seeing what there is to see for a few days, then on the 17th and 18th I have Orientation (where I'll finally be able to make my schedule of classes). The 19th is Freshman Move-In Day, which I expect will bring many tears on the part of my mom.
hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
^_^
And then, Welcome Week is from the 19th to the 24th; apparently, this week is the best week of the entire freshman experience. ie very, very much fun to be had.
I can't wait, I expect the five days to be amazing indeed.
:D
So anyway, my life at the moment in relation to school:
I'm at home, packing and getting various things ready for life at college. At the same time, I'm looking into additional ways to get scholarships, grants, etc, as it appears college is going to be more of a financial burden than I initially thought.
And of course, we're making plans for having fun while visiting LA before we head to campus on the 17th!
^_^
Shall write more later, when there's more to write.
